Philosophical inquiry across language, computation, representation, and complexity.
My work concerns the compositional gap. A recurring loss of perspective, meaning, and situatedness occurs when a system receives a formal, functional, or extensional description. I trace this pattern across philosophy of mind/language, cognitive science, metaphysics, and quantum computation.
My training begins with distributed systems and network security. There the gap between a specification and the system it specifies is a practical problem seeking a philosophical one. The work since has largely been an attempt to say precisely what that gap is.
| Mind | The Knowledge Argument, vehicle theory, and self-model theory (what formal descriptions of mind leave out). |
|---|---|
| Language | The Frege → Kripke → Putnam lineage; reference, meaning, and the limits of formal semantics. |
| Quantum / QNLP | Quantum formalism as a modeling tool for cognition and language, not a metaphysical claim. |
| Cognitive science | Marr's levels and predictive categorization, how structure and meaning relate across levels of description. |
| Futures | Techno-optimism, social utopia, and post-human ethics. |
